Meet the Children

• 5 children supported by the Scholarship Foundation have graduated this year!
• 7 children finished their school phase; their scholarship has been extended for their next school phase (in total 24 school years).
• 3 children do not meet the poverty criteria of the Leprosy Scholarship Foundation anymore. Funding has been ceased since 2007.
• 4 children have left school prematurely. Two of them (Nguyen Thi Hien and Van Tien Hung) left this year. Their school results were insufficient and they did not want to continue. Largely due to poor living conditions of their families, they decided to start working to be able to earn extra money for the family. Hien is learning to be a tailor and Hung is going to work on a boat. The Leprosy Scholarship Foundation tries to find the most appropriate middle way; too small a scholarship leads to the students’ premature departure, too big a scholarship might lead to expenditures other than schooling. Customised help is therefore essential.
• 7 new requests for application have been received from leprosy village Dong Leng in Tuyen Quang province (see number 34-40). 1 application has been approved (4 school years). More background information needs to be collected from the other 6 children prior to approval.

Currently, 22 children are being sponsored to go to school!
